Camshaft A timing over-advanced or system performance · Bank 1

P0011
Reference meaning

What does this code mean?

The controller detects that camshaft A timing on Bank 1 is too advanced or does not follow the expected control behavior. In the cited Ford and GM applications this is the intake camshaft. Bank 1 contains cylinder 1; its physical side depends on the engine. The code does not identify a failed position sensor by itself.

A code identifies a detected condition, not a part that must automatically be replaced.

A listed vehicle is a research lead. Confirm the engine, production range and software in the manufacturer's information.

Before replacing a part

Preserve freeze-frame data and compare commanded with actual cam timing using the correct engine procedure. Check the applicable bulletin and build date before deciding which actuator components need inspection; do not treat a Bank 2 or exhaust procedure as interchangeable.

Can I keep driving?

A code alone cannot establish whether driving is safe. A flashing malfunction light, severe shaking, overheating, oil-pressure warning or loss of braking or steering needs prompt attention. Stop in a safe place and seek assistance when control or engine safety is affected. Follow the vehicle handbook.
