Most common reference to the changing of transmission fluid, filter and pan gasket, and adjusting the bands and linkage as preventive maintenance in order to assure maximum transmission life and satisfactory performance.

Glossary “transmission oil cooler” Definition:
Heat exchanger located in the radiator outlet end section through which transmission fluid flows for cooling purposes on most automatic transmission cars. May also be called a transmission heat exchanger.

Glossary “transmission mount” Definition:
Rubber and metal cushioning devices or devices which holds the transmission to the vehicle frame, located between the transmission and cross-member.

Glossary “transmission case” Definition:
An aluminum or cast iron casting that encloses the transmission parts.

Glossary “transmission band” Definition:
Flexible steel band lined with friction material that is clamped around a circular drum to hold it from turning.
