Glossary “low speed system” Definition:
Circuit in the carburetor that provides fuel to the air passing through it during part-throttle, low-speed operation.

Glossary “low spot” Definition:
Also called a dent, it is an area that is recessed below the surrounding surface.

Glossary “low suction pressure” Definition:
Pressure that is lower than normal in the suction side of the A/C system, due to a malfunction of the unit.

Glossary “low side pressure” Definition:
Pressure in the low side of an A/C system, from the evaporator inlet to the compressor inlet, as may be noted on the low-side pressure gauge.

Glossary “low side service valve” Definition:
Valve located on the suction side of the A/C system that allows the technician to check low-side pressures or perform other necessary service operations.

Glossary “low speed” Definition:
The gearing that produces the highest torque and the lowest vehicle speed.

Glossary “low pedal” Definition:
1). Condition where excessive clearance, at some point in the braking system, or a low fluid level, causes almost full pedal movement for the application of the brakes. 2). The clutch pedal position of a Model T when engaged in low gear.

A conventional, vented lead-acid battery that requires periodic maintenance.

Glossary “low mounted coil spring suspension” Definition:
Type of suspension having a coil spring located above the lower control arm, with the top end of the spring contacting the car frame, found primarily on vehicles having a separate sub-frame or stub frame.

Glossary “low impedance” Definition:
Refers to low resistance in electrical test meters. Low impedance meters should NEVER be used on electronic circuits.

Glossary “low loss fitting” Definition:
Fitting designed to close automatically or manually to prevent fluid or vapor loss when used at connecting points between hoses, service valves, vacuum pumps, recovery or recycle machines.

Glossary “low force compression valve spring” Definition:
Type of valve spring that needs less force to compress the spring and open the valve. Usually found on engines with low lift camshafts and used to keep friction losses to a minimum.

Speed obtained from a planetary gear set when the internal gear is held and power is applied to the sun gear, producing an increase in torque.
