Glossary “distributor vacuum advance” Definition:
Term used for vacuum advance.
What is distributor?
distributor vacuum advance control valve
Glossary “distributor vacuum advance control valve” Definition:
Term often used for deceleration valve.
distributor vacuum vent valve
Glossary “distributor vacuum vent valve” Definition:
Used to prevent fuel migration to the distributor advance diaphragm and to act as a spark advance delay valve.
distributor ignition
Glossary “distributor ignition” Definition:
An ignition system that relies on a conventional distributor for proper operation.
distributor pipe
Glossary “distributor pipe” Definition:
A pipe to convey fuel from the fuel distributor to the injector.
distributor plate
Glossary “distributor plate” Definition:
The plate inside a distributor that is fastened to the housing and does not move.
distributor points
Glossary “distributor points” Definition:
Contact points that are opened and closed through the action of the distributor cam against a rubbing block attached to the points. As the cam lobes rotate, their action upon the rubbing block, cause the points to onpen and closed at specific degrees of rotation. When the points are closed, current flows in the coil primary circuit. When the points are opened, the primary circuit current is turned off and the magnetic field that was developed in the primary windings, collapses across the secondary winding and induces a higher voltage in that circuit which is used to fire the spark plugs.
distributor rail
Glossary “distributor rail” Definition:
Term used for distributor pipe.
distributor rotor
Glossary “distributor rotor” Definition:
Device that directs the current from the ignition coil to the individual terminals around the distributor cap.
distributor timing
Glossary “distributor timing” Definition:
Term used for ignition timing.
distributor advance
Glossary “distributor advance” Definition:
A term used for centrifugal advance, ignition advance, or vacuum advance.
distributor
Glossary “distributor” Definition:
1). A jobber; one who buys from a manufacturer and sells to a wholesaler. 2). Device used to direct electrical current to spark plugs in a timed manner. 3). A device used to direct fuel to injectors.
distributor cam
Glossary “distributor cam” Definition:
The four, six, or eight sided lobe at the top end of the distributor shaft that rotates to cause the contact points to open and close.
distributor cap
Glossary “distributor cap” Definition:
Conventional ignition-system distributor, having a central terminal that receives secondary voltage from the coil and four, six, or eight peripheral terminals to send this voltage to the spark plugs.
distributor housing
Glossary “distributor housing” Definition:
A metal part that contains or provides a mounting for distributor components in a conventional ignition system.
