Glossary “constant volume sampling (CVS)” Definition:
Emissions sampling method which captures all of the exhaust gases from the test vehicle and combines them with a certain amount of outside air. A venturi is used to ensure that a constant flow (fixed volume) of exhaust and air flows through the sampling system.

Glossary “constant voltage” Definition:
Common type of power in which all loads are connected in parallel, with different amounts of current flowing through each load.

Glossary “constant voltage charging” Definition:
Method of charging where the voltage to the battery is constant, and the current decreases as a fully-charged condition is reached.

Glossary “constant mesh” Definition:
Gears that mesh continually, such as a planetary gear, eliminating the clashing or grinding that may occur when other types of gears are shifted together.

Glossary “constant mesh transmission” Definition:
A transmission in which the gears are engaged at all times and shifts are made by sliding collars, clutches, or other means to connect the gears to the output shaft.
