Glossary “clutch switch” Definition:
Switch found only on manual transmission equipped vehicles that disables the speed control system when the clutch pedal is depressed. May also be referred to as a Speed Control Release Switch.

Glossary “clutch shaft” Definition:
Sometimes referred to as the transmission input shaft. The clutch disc is splined to and drives this shaft as the input to the transmission.

clutch housing

Glossary “clutch housing” Definition:
Large aluminum or iron casting that surrounds the clutch assembly. Located between the engine and the transmission, it is also referred to as the bell housing.

clutch disc

Glossary “clutch disc” Definition:
The friction material part of the clutch assembly that fits between the flywheel and the pressure plate (also may be referred to as clutch cover.

clutch control cable

Glossary “clutch control cable” Definition:
Cable assembly with a flexible outer housing anchored at the upper and lower ends. Moving back and forth inside the flexible housing is a braided wire cable that transfers clutch pedal movement to the clutch release lever.
