wet sandpaper
Glossary “wet sandpaper” Definition:
Sandpaper that can be used with water for flushing away sanding debris that would otherwise clog the fine grit.
wet sleeve
Glossary “wet sleeve” Definition:
Term used for wet liner.
wet edge
Glossary “wet edge” Definition:
The area just painted that is still wet when starting to paint a new adjoining area.
wet bulb temperature
Glossary “wet bulb temperature” Definition:
Ambient temperature measured with a wet bulb thermometer.
wet compression test
Glossary “wet compression test” Definition:
Test of the engines compression with one tablespoon of 30W oil added to the cylinder to determine if the low compression from the initial compression test is caused by leaking pistion rings, leaking valves, or from a hole in the head gasket or piston.
wet compression testing
Glossary “wet compression testing” Definition:
Testing of the engines compression pressure with one tablespoons of 30W oil added through the spark plug hole to seal the rings and determine if the compression leak is from the rings or the valves. DO NOT perform this test on a diesel engine.
wet disc clutch
Glossary “wet disc clutch” Definition:
Clutch having a friction disc that operates in a bath of oil.
weldroot
Glossary “weldroot” Definition:
The part of the joint where the wire electrode is directed.
Western Union splice
Glossary “Western Union splice” Definition:
Electrical connection made by paralleling the bared ends of two conductors and then twisting these bared ends, each around the other.
wet bulb
Glossary “wet bulb” Definition:
A device, such as a thermometer, having a wet sock over its sensing element.
welding rod
Glossary “welding rod” Definition:
Form of welding filler metal, normally packaged in straight lengths, that does not conduct the welding current on the outer surface.
welding tip
Glossary “welding tip” Definition:
Part of an oxyfuel gas welding torch from which the gases flow.
weldment
Glossary “weldment” Definition:
Assembly of two or more metal parts that have been joined by fusing metal with the application of heat.
welding filler metal
Glossary “welding filler metal” Definition:
Metal or alloy added in making a weld joint that allows the base metal to form weld metal in a fusion welded joint.
welding filter lens
Glossary “welding filter lens” Definition:
Sometimes called filter plate, it is a shaded glass welding helmet insert for protecting your eyes from ultraviolet burns. The shading value is numbered, the higher the number, the dark the shading.
welder amperage rating
Glossary “welder amperage rating” Definition:
It gives the maximum current flow through the weld joint. The thickness of the metal being welded determines the amperage neeeded.
weldface
Glossary “weldface” Definition:
The exposed surface of the weld on the side where you weld.
welding
Glossary “welding” Definition:
Joining process that produces merging of materials by heating them to the welding temperature, with or without the application of pressure or by the application of pressure alone, and with or without the use of filler material.
welding arc
Glossary “welding arc” Definition:
Controlled electrical discharge between the electrode and the work piece that is formed and sustained by the establishment of a gaseous, conductive medium.
