Glossary “WOTV” Definition:
Wide Open Throttle Valve: In some old EGR applications, it is desirable to cut off EGR flow at WOT, when a richer A/F mixture is needed for performance. This valve is vacuum actuated when full throttle signal is recieved from the carburetor.

Glossary “woven wire cloth” Definition:
A woven metal material, such as phosphor bronze, or stainless steel, available in a wide range of mesh sizes; widely used for filtration.

worm hole
Glossary “worm hole” Definition:
1). Galvanic reaction that erodes metal for the outer walls of wet cylinder sleeves. 2). Term used to discribe the oil passages in an A/T, between the valve body and the transmission case.
worm hose clamp
Glossary “worm hose clamp” Definition:
A clamp that uses a screw that engages a slotted band. Turning the screw reduces or enlarges the clamp diameter.
worm shaft
Glossary “worm shaft” Definition:
Steering gearbox component having spiral grooves that resemble a coiled worm, to transfer motion from the steering wheel shaft to the pitman shaft.

Glossary “worm and sector” Definition:
Type of steering gear assembly that converts a rotary motion to a linear motion.

Glossary “worm bearing preload” Definition:
Adjustment of a worm gear bearing to prevent or reduce backlash.
worm gear
Glossary “worm gear” Definition:
1). Gear at the end of the steering column in a worm and sector steering system. 2). A gear that is shaped like a shaft with gear teeth cut in a continuous spiral around its outer surface. A worm gear changes the axis of rotation when it turns another gear.

Area in a shock absorber where the pressures are produced.
world class quality bolts
Glossary “world class quality bolts” Definition:
Refers to bolts manufactured under stricter guidelines than standard bolts. More attention to the method, level of control and materials used in manufacturing make these bolts uniform in size. Less tolerance in thread diameter and pitch make these bolts more of a precision fastener. Allows for more consistency when using multiple bolts to clamp two surfaces.
