hot soak

Glossary “hot soak” Definition:
1). Condition that may occur when an engine is stopped for a period of time after a hot hard run, causing the gasoline to evaporate out of the carburetor. 2). A period of time where localized combustion heat dissapates through the engine. 3). Allowing a vehicle to sit at a high temperature until all internal and external components stabilize. 4). Federal test procedure for new vehicle certification of overall emission output. This test is normally done in a sealed chamber and all emissions coming from the vehicle are measured. These include exhaust, evaporative. tires, paint, and interior component emissions, in other words, all emissions given off from a vehicle.

Glossary “hot spot” Definition:
1). A localized area where excessive heat can build up, such as around a spark plug, that could cause preignition. 2). An area on an vehicle’s body where corrosion is most likely to occur.

hot tank

Glossary “hot tank” Definition:
A large vat containing a hot, caustic chemical solution that is used to clean the engine block and parts.

hot idle compensator

Glossary “hot idle compensator” Definition:
Temperature-sensitive carburetor valve that opens when the inlet air temperature exceeds a certain level to allow additional air to enter the intake manifold, preventing an overly rich air/fuel ratio.

hot gas

Glossary “hot gas” Definition:
Condition of refrigerant as it leaves the compressor until it gives up its heat and condenses.
