cold weather modulator

Glossary “cold weather modulator” Definition:
Vacuum modulator located in the air cleaner which prevents the hot air duct door from opening to non-heated intake air when the incoming air is below 55¡ãF. Different color coded modulator indicate different opening temperatures.

cold cracking

Glossary “cold cracking” Definition:
Cracking of an excessively thick paint finish when subjected to cold and then to warm temperatures. As metal expands, the paint does not expand with it due to internal stresses in the paint and the paint cracks. Also, flexing an improperly painted flexible plastic part in cool or cold temperature will cause cracking.

coke

Glossary “coke” Definition:
A solid residue left after the distillation of petroleum or other liquid hydrocarbons. Most commonly found in the oil return line of a turbocharger, because the oil is subjected to high heat loads in the area. The residue will restrict the oil flow through the turbocharger, cause damage and failure of the component.

coil wire

Glossary “coil wire” Definition:
Wire that carries secondary high voltage from the coil to the distributor cap in a distributor type ignition system.

coil preload spring

Glossary “coil preload spring” Definition:
Coil springs are made of tempered steel rods formed into a sprial that resists compression and are located in the pressure plate assembly.
