Glossary “automatic door locks” Definition:
Passive system used to lock all doors when the required conditions are met. Many systems lock the doors when the gear selector is placed in D, the ignition switch is in RUN, and all doors are properly shut. Some require a VSS input.

Glossary “automatic headlight dimming” Definition:
Automatically switches the headlights from high beams to low beams under two different conditions when light from oncoming vehicles strikes the photocell-amplifier, or light from the taillights of a vehicle being passed strikes the photocell-amplifier.

Glossary “automatic idle speed motor” Definition:
The output control device used by Chrysler to control the increase or decrease of the engine idle speed.

Glossary “automatic ignition” Definition:
Condition where the engine continues to run after the ignition has been shut off. Often called dieseling or running on. Also known as auto ignition.

A shock-absorber system operated by air pressure to automatically maintain the correct riding height under various load conditions.

Front wheel hubs that can engage or disengage themselves from the axles automatically when torque is applied or removed from the axles.

Glossary “automatic adjuster” Definition:
Drum-brake mechanism that adjusts the lining clearance as wear occurs. It is commonly actuated on reverse stops or when the parking brake is set.

Glossary “automatic choke” Definition:
A mechanism that positions the choke valve automatically in accordance with engine temperature and throttle position.

Glossary “automatic control” Definition:
Any system that reacts to a predetermined condition rather than responding to external commands. May also be referred to as auto control.
